A Cruise on the Aqua Mekong: What You’ll See and Do
Taking to the waters of the might Mekong River – See what’s in store for you beginning in October 2014… With the exciting launch of Aqua Expedition’s newest cruiseship, the Aqua Mekong, merely weeks away, we wanted give you a sneak preview of what you’ll will be able to see and do aboard the ship. You will be amazed at the sense of space – the ship is small enough to be intimate, but equally spacious and luxurious, as there are just 20 suites in total. Our guests will be able to use the state of the art facilities in the fitness center, take a dip in the plunge pool on the top deck, and be pampered in the luxurious Aqua Mekong spa.
Along the route, guests on our Aqua Mekong river cruises will have the opportunity to learn all about the Vietnamese and Cambodian communities living along the banks of the river. You will meet local families and discover the thriving pace of river life, bicycle through local villages, and experience spiritual traditions inside the Buddhist monastery on Sam Mountain.
In Cambodia, we’ll be exploring Kampong Khleang in Tonle Sap Lake, a town built on stilts over the river and we’ll meet the friendly people of Moat Kla, a remote Cambodian fishing village. We’ll tour Phnom Penh and admire the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, as well as venture deep into the beautiful Tra Su flooded forest with our expert guides.
In Vietnam, guests will tour the historic Cu Lao Gieng Church, which some records say was built by a French priest named Gazignol and is the oldest church in southern region, as well as visit the house of French author, Madam Marguerite Duras. Tour the floating markets of Chau Doc, and for the non-squeamish amongst us, get up close and personal with the wildlife at Dom Tam crocodile and snake farm! Watch those teeth!
We’ll watch craftspeople at work in Koh Chen, renowned throughout the region as silver and coppersmiths. With opportunities to shop for lovely Khmer pottery, Guests also can go shopping with our Chef for dinner ingredients at local floating and riverside markets to see how we source our ingredients locally.
After a day of exploring the sights and mysteries of the banks of the mighty Mekong River, you’ll be welcomed back on board to relax enjoy sundowners at the lounge bar on the observation deck of the Aqua Mekong. Then, it’s onto the spacious dining room to enjoy exquisite and creative dishes using local and seasonal produce, from award-winning Consulting Chef David Thompson.
